Scandia, MN – June 22, 2019 – Midsommer Dag Festival

Midsommar Dag                                                 

The most important holiday of the year and one of the most uniquely Swedish in the way it is celebrated. The Majstång (the Swedish version of a Maypole) is decorated with greens and flowers then raised in the center of town. Traditional Swedish music and dances celebrate the long days of summer!

When:  Saturday, June 22, 2019

Activities Include:
• 10:00 -4:00 pm – Craft and Art Fair, Swedish Genealogy Society of Minnesota will be available to answer questions
• 10:00 -1:00 pm – St. Paul Kubb Club Society demonstration
• 11:30 to 12:30 pm – Children’s “Immigrant for a Day” activities, games and crafts
• 10:00-11:00 am – Gazebo food sales begin – coffee, water and cinnamon rolls.
• 11:00 to 12:30 pm – New this year – Smörgåsbord will be held on Museum grounds, $20.00 per person – no reservation needed. Children’s Dala Lunch available for $5.00.

Smörgåsbord menu: sliced ham, cheese, pickled herring, salmon mousse, deviled eggs, Swedish potato salad, Scandinavian coleslaw, pickled beets, Three bean salad, Limpa bread, crispbread, fresh fruit, almond cake with strawberries, coffee, lemonade
• 1:30 pm – Gazebo food sales resume as a “Sweet Treat Station” serving ice cream bars, almond cake, coffee, soda and water and lemonade.
• 1:00 pm- Raising of the Majstång followed by program of music and folk dances

The Svenskarnasdag Girls Choir and Vasa Junior Folk Dancers, and will perform and lead us in the ring dances.

Rev. Arden Haug, Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church, will give the invocation.

Historic Buildings are open FREE 10:00 am -1:00 pm and after the program.
